芝加哥大学社会学博士，现任香港大学社会学讲座教授、社会学系主任，西安交通大学客座教授、博导；亚欧研究中心研究员。曾任西安交通大学长江讲座教授，西安交通大学-香港中文大学迁移联合研究中心创始主任。并曾担任加拿大人口学会主席、美国社会学会国际移民研究组主席、北美华裔社会学人协会主席等职。在种族和族裔的居住模式、国际移民、华裔企业研究等方面取得了众多创新性成果。

人口迁移；国际移民；城市社会学

目前主要关注香港家政劳工移民研究、亚洲的华人移民研究以及大湾区高技术移民研究。
